Bloomington’s mayor says this week’s announcement of $93 million more in investment for the city’s General Electric plant does more than just boost the city’s economy.  Speaking on WFIU’s “Ask the Mayor,” Mark Kruzan said the news also does wonders for morale.

“For the GE workers and families, this is not only good news, it’s unbelievable news to them,” Kruzan said. “It’s ‘We’re not only not going to be losing our jobs, we’re going to have them be more secure.’  And with that kind of investment, you get the impression this company will be here for the long term.”

200 additional jobs will be created at the plant, which produces energy efficient refrigerators.  The positions are part of a larger GE announcement of $1 billion in new spending, aimed at creating 1,300 jobs nationwide.
